Re-Imagine

Routine family moments directed to be reminiscent of iconography from old master paintings based on biblical and mythological themes.

Sacrifice, duty and honor, are all concepts that my three sons interpret in the games they play. The characters in the Re-Imagine series are my husband and I, and our three sons. I choose themes from biblical and mythological stories and imagine them as photographs. There are narratives in the photos that are personal, and refer to issues within our family unit, but because of the art historical references the photographs are also accessible to wider audience. I craft the photographs with simple gestures and body language that are subtle and fleeting, seemingly caught by the camera at the right moment, and have meaning beyond their contemporary context. I am continuing the tradition of updating archetypes with modern tools. The photographs are taken with 6x7 camera and printed as large inkjet and silver gelatin prints.
